Renovation of a 19th century mews house in Notting Hill, turning a property built to stable horses and lodge grooms into a warm, contemporary family home, while keeping the character that makes a mews worth living in.

The approach was sympathetic rather than surgical: original features kept where they earned their place, new work designed to sit beside them rather than compete. Mews properties reward this kind of care. Their footprints are compact and their proportions unusual, so off the shelf solutions rarely fit, nearly everything in this home was made for it specifically.

Scope Of Works

A handmade oak staircase anchors the interior, alongside a custom kitchen, bespoke joinery and herringbone flooring throughout. Feature lighting and natural textures do the atmospheric work, with tailored finishes running through every room.

Outside, the original brickwork was restored, so the house reads as it always has from the cobbles.

Our Role

MATTR Projects was the main contractor, coordinating the bespoke fabrication that defines the project, from the staircase to the joinery, alongside the workforce and supply chain whose skill is visible in every corner of the finished house.
